About Us
We are a group of music educators actively working together to make safer spaces in music education.
Inspired by attending a SOUNDCHECK AOTEAROA workshop in 2021 we have been working together to create resources and professional development workshops in response to an increasing number of reports of sexual harm in music education.
Together we represent the full spectrum of music education in Aotearoa, from early childhood to tertiary, as well as studio/private/itinerant music teachers, music therapists, and community music providers who support youth. Most importantly, we are listening to the voices of our ākonga/students.
We wish to collaborate openly with the music education community, particularly minority groups and voices, to create meaningful positive change in music education.
